This is an old-fashioned diner which has survived to today. It can be a nostalgia trip back to the way things were many decades ago. Be aware that this diner does not take any credit cards. Cash only. it is a little surprising that they don't take credit cards like every other restaurant and build the credit card fees into their prices. The fees are simply not that much, and most customers would not notice a few extra pennies on the price of a meal.

Usually im satisfied with the experience, however today when i walked into Johns Diner it smelled like the inside of a sewer. Immediately walked out.

What a gem. Fast friendly service with a very comprehensive menu and prices from the 1970s. Had a bowl of chicken noodle soup with the Perch entre for lunch. Came with homemade coleslaw, the creamiest slaw I've ever had. 4 big pieces of perch served over a plate of fries. Fries were average, but perch was excellent. The whole meal was $6.95! Wife ordered the Rueben and daughter had an omelette. Everyone left full and happy, total bill $22.

Best Corned Beef Hash I've ever had!!

It was pretty good, I love the older style design. The menu is really big and you can order anything at anytime. Prices are good. The cleanliness was notto bad but I loved it because it gave it that old home feel. Not sure if there is air conditioning, the windows were open. I love all the history about the diner on the walls, down to anyone famous being there.

Hard not to give it 5 stars. Greasy spoon diner food, friendly service, and probably the best price in the city. Perfect for a Sunday breakfast/lunch.

The food is good. The waitresses are very nice and accommodating

DIG IT. I have been eating at this diner for probably 20+ years. Like any diner employees come and go. Consistency has been a problem. You can't beat the atmosphere, the old boxcar without the wheels. It's worth a shot.

Nice servers. Low prices.

WOW quick service, unbelievably low prices, generous portions (Ya better be hungry!) Or plan to take home the rest for another meal! Oh and you are bound to run into someone you know. I said the service was quick but it was also friendly, helpful, not pushy, and frequently checking you out for more coffee, another tea bag and more hot water, etc.

Great home made corn beef hash.

This place has very nice people working there, but something must be said about the cleanliness and quality of food. Immediately I was grossed out by the dirty menus and overall filthiness. How is this place still aloud to serve food. The food itsself taste like all the ingredients were bought at the 20cent store. Terrible quality. We both felt like throwing up after eating here. I've never felt this way before. Menu is cheap but this place needs to be bulldozed.

Nice little diner. Have breakfast there a couple times a year before heading to events at the rocky river reservation. Open early, night portions, friendly and laid back. Cash only but they have an ATM there.

John's diner is a Lakewood staple. Nothing fancy but inside a old street car they serve lots of affordable meals and run daily specials. The waitresses are usually kind and caring.

Huge portions of home cooked goodness!! Has that old school diner ambiance. The food is served quickly and the service is excellent. The value cannot be beat.

This place is pretty good. Food is hit or miss. I had some of the best eggs and sausage the first time I came. I had chicken noodle soup today and it was awesome. Salmon patties were okay, a little overdone for my taste. But, super cheap!

A proper ma and pa diner not changed since the 50s. My eggs were not done quite the way I wanted but I am a picky sod. So do visit and enjoy.

Food is good, service is average. Two consecutive weekends we came for breakfast between 12:30 and 1:30pm and they mopped the floor during our meal. Why in the world would you want to dine while someone is cleaning the floor with a strong cleanser and the smell overpowers your senses and takes away from your dining experience?

I was charged for two items on my receipt in which I was never given.

I had heard about this place when I worked in Lakewood years ago, but never made it out there. Yesterday my girlfriend and I were enjoying our rainy Sunday afternoon, and stopped by for a bite to eat.It is a cash only place, but you can easily eat for the $20 you will have to pull from a ATM. The pricing is super affordable, and there are plenty of classics to choose from.I went with fried chicken & gravy, and my girlfriend got a hotcakes breakfast w/ chocolate milk. The cook on the eggs was great, and the chicken was super flavorful. My girlfriend cleaned up her plate, no problem, and I took some leftovers home. All in all we spent around $14.There is a lot of history with this place, and it is a quintessential greasy spoon. I love places like this, and if you fancy little dives and the like, John's Diner is for you!

Service is fast and good is okay. The place is very dated and could be cleaner.

Two of my best buddies suggested the place as really original. I was visiting my daughter (Capt. Rebecca and Jesse). It was like home!

Just moved across the street and I can already tell John's Diner will be a frequent stop. At least on weekends cause the hours are basically breakfast and lunch. It's got that early 80s feel in here and the prices definitely reflect that. The food is good and the atmosphere is fine. It feels "safe." I think you would have to be here to understand that but you would. Staff is friendly. Parking is available right outside. Some places do not need to be modernized. It's good to understand your market. The only drawback I see is not taking credit or debit cards. Yes, there is an ATM machine but although it's cool to keep an old school vibe, we are still in 2019!! Nonetheless, looking fwd to dining here this next upcoming year!-Cory J

The chicken noodle soup was pretty good a tad bit salty but it hit the spot. The chicken gyro is not worth it. They had watered down homemade chocolate milk not worth it taste just like white milk. Service was ehh wonΓ’β¬β’t come back

I went to this place twice now. The food is Bland. The Belgian waffle. Was pancake mix with no malt flavoring. The place was horribly disgusting this time. The bathrooms were hideous. Well the men's was. Flies all over the place. Will not be going back to this establishment. The service was decent. The only reason I have 2 stars.

Sad I'm posting this. Have been coming to John's Diner on and off since I moved here from Philadelphia (1997). Wow this place has gone downhill. While the waiters are nice and friendly people, the place is so understaffed that service is terrible. Went in on a typical Sunday, place was packed..... all they had working was 3 waiters and 2 people in the kitchen. One person on grill...... Place looks like it hasn't been updated since it's been built. Even the coffee cups look like they came with the place. Food is gross and terrible anymore. Stay away.

An old school diner with rich history and all the trappings of a greasy spoon type place that used to be common at one point and now pretty much extinct. So old school in fact that it's cash only, doesn't have a website and there's an old pay phone by the entrance door that should have been replaced in the early eighties. The joint is staffed mostly by older ladies who use a straightforward, no-nonsense approach to service. Big portions, low prices, this is a place one frequents to experience something from a bygone era. The hearty meal is a bonus, a really big bonus.

The service was great & the ppl were friendly. The atmosphere is nice & interesting. However, I hate to say this, but I didn't like the food (breakfast) or the coffee. The food wasn't seasoned well, if at all & the coffee was weak. I probably won't be back. Srry.

Classic Americana diner, if you like cheap good quality old fashioned food come here and you'll get a great service. If you want fine dining go spend the extra money at any other place, come here if you enjoy good quality Americana food and extremely low prices.
